Giovanni Buttarelli
Appointed European Data Protection Supervisor by a joint decision of the European Parliament and European Council on 4 December 2014 for a five-year term.
He served as Assistant Supervisor from January 2009 to December 2014. Before joining the EDPS, he was Secretary-General at the Italian Data Protection Authority from 1997-2009. As a Judicial Review judge with the Italian judiciary, he has long been involved in many initiatives and committees on data protection and related issues on an international level.
