Santiago Zabala

He studies philosophy at the University of Turin and at the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome where he obtained his PhD in 2006. The following year, he was awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship at the University of Potsdam. Zabala was appointed ICREA Research Professor at the Pompeu Fabra University, where he currently teaches contemporary and political philosophy, supervises PhD students and directs the UPF Centre for Vattimo’s Archives and Philosophy. Zabala is also visiting professor at Renmin University, IDSVA, and several other international institutions.

He is author of Why Only Art Can Save Us. Aesthetics and the Absence of Emergency ( (2017), The Remains of Being (2009) and The Hermeneutic Nature of Analytic Philosophy (2008), among others, and co-author with Gianni Vattimo of Hermeneutic Communism (2011).

Zabala writes articles, reviews and essays for The New York Times, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, El País and La Stampa, among others. He is also the editor of Bellaterra Publishers Series on Political Philosophy, and co-editor (with G. Vattimo) of the Davies Group Publisher Series on Contemporary European Cultural Studies.
