The right to the city: local government tools and proposals for making progress in its implementation
With the arrival of the new millennium, the idea that municipalities are a key player in the respect for, promotion and guaranteeing of rights starts to be heard all over the world. Several tools then appear aimed at disseminating this narrative and guiding local governments in the design of implementation policies for the right to the city and human rights in general.
This seminar aims to explore the impact of these initiatives and their capacity for making specific and tangible progress in the right to the city through municipal policies. The resulting debate and analysis will contribute to the reflection taking place as part of the Open City, Biennial of Thought and in particular, the areas of reflection relating to (local) democracy and diversity.
With Michele Grigolo, Benoit Frate, Barbara Oomen and Martha F. Davis, among others, in addition to representatives from local governments, international organisations (CGLU, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights) and civil society (the Catalan Institute of Human Rights, Korea Human Rights Foundation).
Organised by the CIDOB Barcelona Centre for International Affairs.
