Peripatetic walks

The peripatetic school was founded in Athens three centuries before Christ. They were followers of Aristotle who gave philosophy classes while walking. Hence its name: peri-patetic, which etymologically comes from the verb 'walk' and the prefix 'about'.

We are offering some peripatetic walks around the city. These walks will be a journey to rediscover the city, inspiring us to reflect on gender and democracy. Guided by a philosopher, students will discover the city while they discuss these themes and consider the classics in modern times.

The walks are:

1. Submissive, beautiful, discreet: gender stereotypes in the classics
   During this walk, we will elicit questions and reflections concerning the gender perspective in classical philosophy and how it affects us today.
   Start: in front of the Palau de la Música Catalana (C. del Palau de la Música, 4-6)
2. Democracy and justice
   What is democracy? What is justice? We will find the answers that humanity has provided throughout history in the classics and philosophy.
   Start: in front of Cotxeres de Sants (C. de Sants, 79)
3. Mirror, mirror... what is beauty?
   A theme that has been the subject of reflection in all artistic and philosophical disciplines throughout history.
   Start: in front of La Pedrera (C. Provença, 261-265)
4. Why do they call it love...
   What is love, really? How does it affect us as people and connect us as a society? From the myth of romantic love to pure sexual desire, the classics have much to say.
   Start: Sant Antoni Market (C. Comte d’Urgell, 1)
