Mounir Baatour

Lawyer at the CMB Avocats law firm. Specialist in commercial law and property law. LGBTQ+ rights activist in Tunis and Africa. Chair and founder of the Shams Association, an NGO created in 2015 to safeguard the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in a Tunis and the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the country, where it is a crime under Article 230 of the Penal Code and punishable with up to three years of prison.

The Shams Association works to raise awareness of sexually transmitted diseases, the place of sexual minorities in moral, material and psychological plans, and the peaceful fight for the abolition of degrading segregationist legislation towards sexual minorities, and to safeguard the rights of people to live in dignity regardless of their sexual orientation or any other differentiation.

Baatour is the leader of the Tunisian Liberal Party. Contributor to the Huffington Post and other media.
